The permission was given by the court in its final decision in a petition filed by Ashraf against the rejection of his nomination papers by an election tribunal.
"A full court bench of Lahore High Court today struck down the election tribunal's order on our appeal and allowed Ashraf to contest the election," his lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa told AFP.
The Rawalpindi constituency includes the Gujjar Khan village which is Ashraf’s native village.
During the hearing of the petition on April 18, the court had given provisional green light for Ashraf to contest the elections, ordering the Election Commission of Pakistan to include the name of the former prime minister in the list of valid candidates.
On April 7, the RO for NA 51 had rejected the nomination papers of Ashraf. Subsequently, an election tribunal upheld the RO’s decision and dismissed an appeal filed by Ashraf on April 15, in light of objections raised by a former union nazim of Gujjar Khan.
A group of lawyers including Farooq H Naek, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon and president of LHC bar association Abid Saqi represented the former prime minister before the bench comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Syed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi.

Thanks to the judiciary now i have no doubts about why Musharaf is being treated like that? Pathetic judiciary.
Its SCREWTINY for sure...of Pakistanis.
The best thing for all of us is to go to polling stations and vote on 11th May, otherwise keep ourselves quite. Is it a 'manufacturing' fault in us or most of the guys here are paid to downgrade politicians all the time. Imagine you were sent to a school over and over again, repeating the same course, say of tenth class and the final exam was held under the Oxford University for graduation, what chances would you have? Zilch. Politician were forced to take this narrow line and made corrupt so they could take the blame for other institutions' corruptions over the last 65 years. Whenever they had a little chance they outshine all the holy cows (the list is long, just take a 18th amendment, NS going Nuclear, Bhutto setting strategic defense system etc). People of Pakistan never chosen wrong people to represent them, however when their choice is denied through rigging, not handing over power to their chosen representatives, the blame should not be squared at their door. May be we have a short memory and can easily be manipulated by men with a louder voice on the social media. Get Real please.
Good decision.. Let him be politically knoced down. At least we're not going to face a big cry of 'Being victim'. Insha-Allah people will take an account of the day of Judegment, the 11th May.
Judicial martial law.
So this means except musharaf... everyone is an angel in pakistan atleast in court's eyes... hmmm ... nice...
It is such a farce. Let us see who all join the lawyers forum. Individuals who are denied admissions to any institute opt to do LLB. Exceptions would always be there. Look at the functioning of the lower courts. Corrupt and dismal. Pay money and you can get a decision of your liking. I personally will abstain from voting. They ( ECP and the supreme court) is a farce. No country can survive such corruption, nepotism and a total break down of order. Worst is yet to come. And the previous parliament had the cheeks to celebrate their pelomic 5 years of democracy. The person who is in part responsible for pushing this nation into 18 to 22 hours of darkness is allowed to contest. What a joke
Now, let the voters put him to shame.
So now he has become "Sadiq aur Amin" all of a sudden.. Taaaliyaaan!
SHAM DEMOCRACY.
Now please Musharref in.
"Science goes far and then comes God." Some things are, really, beyond the reach of human ration. Deciding legal and ethical grounds for the actions of, an individual or an institution, to legitimize it and make that legitimacy universal, is certainly one of them. Sadly, it does not question the authenticity of the elections but that of Judiciary. The Supreme Court has staged a drama in the name of restoring the honor of law in the country and is, clearly, taking the revenge. Look at the comedy which the courts are creating in the case of Musharraf. What are they up to? The whole institution looks like, chasing just one person, who during his 9 years of, according to them, usurped rule, took just one action against Judiciary. All the illegal actions which all the usurper took against the whole nation has no value. It never awaken the Judiciary to take any action against any of the Generals or politicians. Now it awoke, in selective cases, to show it's concern and to restore the honor of the Judiciary; "honor, once lost, is never restored honorable judges, it is, always, kept." The Judiciary of this country, on every stage, has failed to to keep it's honor. And now, with this making a mockery of the law, in the cases like Musharraf and electoral process, they are making it rather a worst comedy ever. All this process looks like a revenge not an honest gesture to uphold the honor and dignity of the Judiciary. If we go with the book, not a single politician or institution is legitimate. So for the moment, leave this personal war and concentrate on the giant of terrorism which is hollowing the very foundation of our Pakistan, our state. Every consequential and or fatal chance, comes once in a life time. We have one, let's Do avail it!
Fakhr-ud-din G Ibrahim has let not only this nation down but he let himself down too. Clearly he hasn't learned from the history of when you endorse "doctrine of necessity" things go pear-shaped.
The meaning of the word Sadiq - One who is truthful. This person has broken more promises to the nation are on record. I wonder what these "honorable" judges were thinking, if at all they were thinking.
He is only brought back by the "system" so he could a humiliating defeat by the youth. come what may, my vote is only and only for PTI.
Is there any hope for Jinnah's Pakistan after all ?
The institutions have failed ECP as well as courts; The LAW IS APPLICABLE TO THE POOR ONLY. A person who has pending NAB cases cant contest; as per article 62/63 His public reputation is zero
Absolutely not fair to the Public of Pakistan! Even if you someone is alleged in something, they should be not allowed - this is a public office and requires highest levels of integrity without any spot at all.
Yet another win for Democracy (sarcasam)!!!
Panjab..at its best.
What has Musharraf done wrong, if he was feudal lord than things would have been different. Our people need high cast feudal ruling us, we have converted to Islam but mentally we have not converted at all.
What a joke... If he is allowed to run, so should Musharraf. I do not support either but clearly someone pocketed money in this case. This is exactly how you erode the already minimal trust of the public. Well done ECP and the courts...well done...
The scrutiny was ruthless.....and I am Big Foot
Just to make it look more legit that is all. Since he is clean at least he should not promise that every person who votes for him will have electricity if he wins ;-)
No hope! I think God has to intervene :(...but then we know "Jo qomein Apni madad khud nahin Allah bhi un ki madad nahin karta".
election commission of Pakistan and the reporting officers..you all have killed the articles 62 63. free and fair election with these goons. i prefer abstaining my vote when there is no person worthy of it, and when i have to decide which person is less corrupt in the list of 20 corrupt candidates to vote, its better not to vote.
What a disgrace! Seriously questioning the authenticity of these elections now!
Topi Drama by court and ECP both. They are making people fool. First they reject papers and then they allow them to take part in election.
