He was addressing a function to mark Iqbal’s death anniversary He said he was part of a caretaker set up that would hold free and fair elections. “The transformation of Pakistan into a flourishing democratic welfare state is our goal,” he said. He said the general elections were drawing near. They would be held on time, he said.
The establishment of an independent judiciary and media were landmark achievements for the country, Nizami said. Justice (retd) Nasira Javeed Iqbal, Prof Muhammad Saleem, Archives and Libraries Secretary Orya Maqbool Jan and Iranian Consul General Muhammad Hussain Bani Asadi also spoke on the occasion.
