FAISALABAD:

The leader of a gang involved in forging registration documents for stolen motorcycles has been arrested here, City Police Officer (CPO) Riffat Mukhtar Raja told media on Friday.

CIA Superintendent Rana Azeem had been tasked with the investigation of several complaints regarding fake registration books for motorbikes.

SP Azeem and Sub Inspector Shahid Sarwar Alvi managed to trace the fake books to a gang headed by Muhammad Riaz, a resident of Lasharian, Chak 435-GB, said the CPO.

The CPO said Riaz was arrested on Thursday night. He not only confessed to preparing forged registration booklets but also named four of his accomplices. The CPO said Riaz named Muhammad Boota from Chak 593-GB, Sain Dolah of Mustaqeem, Hujra Shah Muqeem,  Wazeer from 24/1-AL Balochan Wala Sher Garh and Asif Shahzad from Okara, as members of his gang. Riaz was presented before media where he said Boota, Asif, Wazeer and Sian Dolah would purchase stolen motorbikes. Riaz said he would then prepare counterfeit registration booklets for the bikes and the gang would sell them in various cities.

The CPO said the police had recovered 14 stolen bikes on a tip-off by Riaz and said they were looking for his accomplices.
