Cleaning our streets

Letter April 18, 2013
Where once wheat grew, there is a stack of plastic bags. Don't litter your environment.

ISLAMABAD: If you ever cross the boundaries of Islamabad’s affluent areas, you see a different world, a world that should not exist. A world that is filled with plastic bags and trash, as well as mounds and heaps of waste. No one seems to be thinking of the impact this has on the children and residents of this city. We forget that in the midst of all the political drama, we, as citizens of this nation, have a responsibility towards our environment.

Visit a small town in Islamabad called Tarlai. You will see that there is no apparent reaction to the rubbish piles on its streets. It is a normal sight that in a ground where once upon a time wheat grew, there is a stack of plastic bags, cans, glass and rotten food. The next time someone thinks about littering our streets and roads, please remember that there is a part of the world you are destroying, and that is Pakistan.
