Another ANP leader narrowly escaped an attempt on his life on Wednesday.
Farooq Khan Shaikho, the party’s PK-17 candidate, escaped unhurt when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near his vehicle in Sardheri, Charsadda. A pedestrian was injured while no fatalities were reported.
Sardheri police official Anwarullah was patrolling the area at 11am when he was informed by a station official about an explosion near the ANP candidate’s vehicle. Anwarullah said he rushed to the site where he saw Farooq Shah’s destroyed vehicle at the roadside.
Farooq told the police he was on his way to Charsadda Bazaar from his house when the bomb exploded. The IED, which was planted near his house in the wayside, destroyed his vehicle. A pedestrian identified as Haroon Khan was injured and was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital.
“Farooq and his family members narrowly escaped the explosion,” added Anwarullah. According to the bomb disposal squad, two kilogrammes of explosives were used in the device. A case has been filed against unidentified militants and an investigation is underway.
