Anti-dengue campaign: LWMC cleans up dumping sites

As many as 50 LWMC workers took part in the operation.

The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has launched a campaign to clear empty plots of land to control the breeding of dengue mosquito larvae in them. The LWMC will clean out plots of land used as garbage dumping sites and carry out awareness activities to create awareness about the dangers of throwing garbage in empty plots.


As part of the cleanup, the LWMC removed more than 300 tonnes of garbage from the union councils 35 and 36 of Shalimar Town and union councils 116 and 120 in Iqbal Town. As many as 50 LWMC workers took part in the operation; they used 12 dumpsters and two loaders to clear the garbage. It took them up to 8 hours to clear garbage from each area. LWMC Assistant Manager Mohsin Saboor supervised the cleanup in Shalimar Town and Assistant Manager Zahid Mushtaq in Iqbal Town. LWMC Managing Director Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry said, “We have requested people to stop dumping in open plots to prevent dengue and pollution.”
