Afridi said that he was approached by the ECP to participate in the campaign.
“I agreed immediately,” he told The Express Tribune.
“It’s a national cause and I feel it’s my duty to give a helping hand to the ECP which is working hard for free and fair elections,” he added.
The charismatic cricketer will be seen in video messages by the ECP in which he will urge people not to lose the chance to vote, while emphasising on the importance of voting.
The development came a day after speculations emerged of Afridi joining the Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz after he met with the party chief. Afridi, however, had refuted the reports saying that he had only gone to mourn the death of Nawaz Sharif’s brother and has no intentions of joining politics.
Last year, Afridi was appointed as a “polio champion” to act as the face of the anti-polio campaign to end the crippling disease in the country.

good move by ECP, and thank you Lala for giving back to your country although i think you have done more than enough, best of luck
Thank you Lala for agreeing.. hope ur stint will guide people
He is charismatic and popular and relatively free of controversy. Using him to "rock the vote" is a great idea to promote participation. A very good idea by ECP so long as afridi remains pro-democracy but party-neutral.

Great news!
Afridi can love politics as much as he like but he is no IK. Players should only concentrate on the game not on politics. If he is on the payroll of public, he should stay away from politics and any publicity. Players get publicity via their game and results not by populist and political acts.
ET i usually write in a casual manner so i dont care about my style of writing but when you are Representing one of the respectable news outlet in Pakistan then choice of words and sentences must be appropriate and upto the mark. Rather than using the sentence Afridi, however, had refuted the reports saying that he had only gone to mourn the death of Nawaz Sharif’s brother if you would have used " Pay Condolences " instead of mourning the death then it will be more sane.
Excellent. He is a hero for many and will motivate them to cast their votes
