"Mukarram Shah was travelling to Mingora when his vehicle was targeted by an IED (improvised explosive device), around 12 kilometres northeast of Mingora city," Gul Afzal Afridi, the district police chief told AFP.
Shah was alone in his car and no-one else was hit by the explosion.
ANP local leader was also a prominent member of the Swat Peace Committee.
Taliban militants claimed responsibility of the attack saying all secular parties and their leaders were in their crosshairs.
"We have already announced we will attack ANP and other secular parties," Ehsanullah Ehsan, a spokesman for Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, told AFP on phone.
The party has witnessed two targeted attacks in April only.
Former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa ANP MPA Adnan Wazir was killed when a remote-controlled bomb exploded near his vehicle in the Wali Noor area of Frontier Region (FR) Bannu. Wazir had been on his way to a public gathering in the Jani Khel area, when the explosive device exploded near his vehicle.
A former ANP agriculture minister Arbab Ayub Jan was injured in a roadside bomb which targeted Jan’s car in the jurisdiction of Chamkani Police Station. He survived the attack.
The TTP in recent statements have said they consider democracy to be against Islam, and have vowed to disrupt elections by targeting three of the ‘secular’ mainstream parties (PPP, ANP and MQM).

Correction: An earlier version of the article mistakenly said "Shah's car" instead of "Shah" in the second paragraph. The error has been rectified.

what so ever the situation or case may be in the country, the election must be held on 11 May 2013, its the question of our future and our resolve to our young generation that we can go to any length to give them a good future.
@ Tribune,, Please make correction,, Adnan Wazir was not killed rather injured
Was the killer good Talib or bad Talib? Was he trained in Noristan or Kunar?
When they say, attack on secular parties would remain continue it is a diplomatic statement,it mean have to gain support of religous political parties in the country.
What the rightwing parties could not achieve via free and fair elections they are going for it with the help of TTP. While rightwing leaders are safe and free to campaign, the secular parties and their leaders are constantly targeted and killed. Yet some would continue to deny relationships between our rightwing change leaders and TTP terrorists. Some politicians lie after gaining power the rightwing is already lying.
@chacha:
And get blown up! No thanks! We want peace.

RIP
when we as a state stop accepting this madness from TTP and say enough is enough
Distancing myself from my usual rhetoric (which is disliked by the moderators and other Pakistanis alike), let me ask this question.
How many of you still believe that TTP is sponsored by RAW/CIA? And why?
@chacha: Agree with your appeal that people should vote for the three parties targeted by TTP and give these barbarians a befitting reply. All candidates belonging to the three parties should stop canvassing in person but instead send their party workers for door to door canvassing which would definitely get them more sympathy votes in their favour.
Mukaram Shah has never been in ANP, he was first in PPP and then QWP. please make correction
ANP workers are being killed on daily basis. They have three options: 1. Boycott (It will be detrimental for the province) 2. Face the threats (They will lose all workers till May 11th) 3. Demand to delay elections until a future time. (Recommended)
The enemies plan is clear......make Pakistanis kill Pakistanis
Fundo vs Liberal Balochi vs Punjabi Puhstun vs Urdu Speaking Sunni Vs Shia Muslim vs Christian
,and so on & so on
How long shall we play our enemies games??
ANP had an ideology 3 decades back. They were banned from politics back then. Even today they are paying the price.
Security should be increased for ANP leaders
The only difference between right wing parties - PTI, PML of all hue and colour and religious parties- and TTP is that what TTP want to achieve with violence they will achieve with confusing and obfuscating people. The bottom line is their destiny is same.
...and still we talk about Article 6 on Musharraf, not Zia-ul-Haq (and his cronies).
Army is there and but still it happened! Game on, my dear Pakhtun brothers!
May his soul rest in peace....very sad...TTP u guys r jokers...
Fully Condemn such attacks. I wish the government could recognize its mistake which it made 4 decades ago. They persecuted their friends, they waltzed with their enemies. They religious extremists won't rest until they see the whole country burning.
Shah’s car was killed
car was killed
Rest in Peace Mukarram Shah. Your sacrifice will not go in vain Inshallah.
People! If u want to defeat Taliban, vote for PPP, MQM and ANP.
I am coming to believe that there will be no elections in the near future.
