District Coordination Officer Imran Sikandar Baloch said on Saturday all government departments should try to make the polio campaign effective.

He was addressing a meeting held here to review arrangements for a three-day polio vaccination campaign starting from April 15. Baloch said participating in the drive was a national duty.

He said as many as 545,198 children under five years of age would be administered polio vaccine in the district and 1,284 teams would take part in the campaign. As many as 1,019 teams would go house-to-house while 145 teams would vaccinate children in hospitals, rural health centres, basic health units and tehsil and district headquarters hospitals.

EDO Ehsanullah Warraich told the meeting the Health Department would observe a mother and child week from April 24 to 30 during which pregnant women and children would be vaccinated. He said free medicines would be provided to the children for stomach diseases.
