Show cause: DCO, CCPO, PHA DG told to file replies

LAHORE: Show cause notices were issued on Friday to the DCO, the CCPO and the Punjab Horticulture Authority director general for not submitting a compliance report after enforcing guidelines prescribed by the Election Commission of Pakistan. Last week, a monitoring team had identified, in a report, a number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidates who were violating the ECP’s Code of Conduct. They were Aurangzeb Burki and Asif Nagra of the PPP and Mian Marghoob Ahmed, Mian Imran, Khawaja Safwan of the PML-N. The potential candidates, said the team, had put up banners, hoardings and printed material, which was bigger than the size allowed by the Election Commission. Some of them were also using wall chalking, which is prohibited, as part of their campaigns. District Returning Officer (DRO) Nazir Ahmed Ganjana gave the officers a week to file their replies.
