Neelum Jhelum Project: WAPDA aims to complete dam by 2016

The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) was making all possible efforts to compete the 969-megawatt (MW) Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project in 2016, according to its construction schedule, said Wapda chairman in progress review meeting on Thursday.


Speaking on the occasion, the chairman said that the Neelum Jhelum Dam, besides generating much-needed hydel electricity, was also of immense importance for Pakistan to establish priority water rights.

Expressing satisfaction over the pace of work, he further said that the project is culminating into an excellent opportunity for socioeconomic uplift of the local populace.

Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project CEO said that out of total 67-kilometre tunnels, 33 km long tunnels (49%) have so far been excavated, while excavation of under-ground power house stood at 70% and transformers at 95%.

I always reverse the statement of govt. officials. If he says he is satisfied, the project is doomed. Congratulation India.

Its a race between Pakistan and India that who so ever completes the water project on their side would have right on the water of river Neelum.A much needed and fastly completed work is needed.
