Efforts are being made to ensure that the elections will be held in a transparent manner. That is the foremost responsibility of the caretaker government said Chief Minister Najam Sethi while addressing officials from the All Pakistan Newspapers Society and Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors on Wednesday a press statement read.
Sethi said the chief secretary and IGP would deal with the matter of transfers and posting of officials in the light of orders from the election commission. The elections will be held on time, he said.
Providing security to political parties’ leaders was the state’s responsibility, said Sethi. Several bullet proof rostrums and jammers had been purchased for political rallies, he said. Sethi stressed on greater cooperation and intelligence sharing between law enforcement agencies.
On the fence about Basant
Sethi said the government had not taken a decision about whether to allow Basant festivities yet.
He said the government would not take an irresponsible step. Kite flying could be allowed in certain parks and areas. The final decision would be taken in a cabinet meeting soon, said Sethi.
The government wants to improve the living standards, he said. Wasa has been directed to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water. The sanitary conditions of hospitals are also being improved, he said. “I am a man of principles and give priority to merit,” Sethi said.

I am man of principles - then what should we do?
They say self praise is no praise!
Principles!!! Self Praise!!! A little bird has given details of monies given to him by you know who, complete with bank accounts, foreign trips etc!!! Principles!!!!
@ALI, Mr Ali let us see how he manages the Caretaker Govt and then we may have an informed Opinion. @A. Khan, Sir, you have judged perfectly. The Security should be for everyone fro President to People.
there will be many "men of principle" , the matter is "What are your principles" ..
He always praises himself. Had he been so principled, he would have been imparted in Pakistan's economic or scientifc arena. I hate such empty claims by many
@Falcon: Basant can only come back when there is a gaurantee that no one will have their throats slit from kite thread or fall of a roof of a building flying kites.
I disagree.
Its not the states responsibility to provide individual security whether to political leaders or other individuals. However, it is the states responsibility to ensure that the country/province/city is safe for each and every citizen. If you start doing this at individual level, it diverts attention and resources from the wider role that is the states primary function. Security has to be at a holistic level as the sum of the individual parts does not equal the whole in this case.
So if the state says that security is very good and the president is safe in aiwan e sadar, Well, big deal, tell that to the person whose legs have been blown off in bomb explosion in bakra mandi.
Sethi Sahib...why are NS and SS and family getting such large security contingents?
These are rich people - why do we have to pay for them?
While you are at it, please bring back Basant.
Sethi is a great person
