Transitions : Manzoor Niazi passes away at 98

He was given the title of Bulbul-e-Dakan by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and a Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2005 by the government.

KARACHI: Noted Qawaal Manzoor Ahmed Khan Niazi passed away after illness at the age of 98.

He was given the title of Bulbul-e-Dakan by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and a Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2005 by the government.

He belonged to the family of Ameer Khusru and sang more than 1,000 Qawaalis.

His funeral prayers were offered at Alana Mosque at Shoe Market and he was buried at the Mewa Shah Graveyard.

A large number of qawaals and other artists attended his funeral and paid their respects. His son, Abdullah Khan Niazi, is also a qawaal.

His soyem will be held after Zuhr prayer at the Alana Mosque on Thursday. He leaves behind five sons, two daughters and a widow.
