The missile was launched by the Army as part of a routine trial. Weighing 17 tonnes, the Agni II can carry a payload of more than 1,000 kg to a distance of 2,000 km. The range of the missile can be increased to 3,000km with a reduced payload.
“The two-stage vehicle launched from a mobile launcher has met all the mission objectives. Radar and electro-optical tracking systems located all along have tracked and monitored all parameters of the vehicle,” said Ravi Kumar Gupta, director, DRDO.
The first prototype of Agni II was successfully fired in 1999 and has been inducted in the defence forces.

@G. Din: They are not nuclear powers, while India is and it invests heavily on both conventional and non-conventional weaponry systems.
@Sylheti Bangladeshi: so like pakis u r also gonna buy chinese crap....no frnd....u'll end up the same way as pakis...u'll end up eating grass......even though u already are...:) @Zeta: lol.....800 yeah go ahead.....was wondering y u din say 1000000 ....and yeah we dont paint missiles...we test them on our own...so sometimes it does result in failure too....but pakis....they test chinese painted missiles and so never fails... :D
@AlChemist: "* This is the fundamental difference between India and other nations (Brazil, Germany, South Africa and South Korea)." Vive la difference!
So much justification for your missile program? Would the replies be completely opposite, had they been Pakistani missiles? India being a greater economic power does not need those missiles. You want markets, investors, visas along a permanent membership at United Nation Security Council, but also missiles and nukes. This is the fundamental difference between India and other nations (Brazil, Germany, South Africa and South Korea).
An old technology with Russian rocket system. It is a known fact the rocket system is Russian made. Mate if Pakistan were to copy any missile system it is USA in fact.
@Zeta: India has the foreign exchange reserve of approx 300 billion dollars but it is Pakistan whose economy is in total doldrums and with paltry 12 billions reserve needs to control its spending on nuclear arsenal, its delivery system and other military infrastructure being purchased to be at par with India.
@Sandeep: Yes Indeed Thanks Russia to teach us. But without we learning anything and making it ourselves like we now do we would have been just like Pakistan buying ready made missile from Korea and China and paint it to fool common people that it is home made. @Zeta: When you guys have nothing better to say about the missile test you talk about feeding the poor. I am touched by your "humanitarian" comment. I am sure you preach your government the same which spends 33% of it's GDP on toys for it's army.
@Zeta, Mate whole world knows who is painting the missiles..
800 millions indians starving ? that means 800 x 10 Lakhs = 80 crores. OMG! from where did you got this figure mate?
@Zeta: thanks for your concern. indian government is also doing enough to eradicate poverty. So Please be patient.
Thanks to Russia.
@Zeta: " ... How about feeding 800 million starving indians rather than spending on and testing these painted missiles ... "
These missiles are for the 400 million who are not starving. And who will lift the remaining 800 million from poverty, starvation etc.
@Zeta and all who will repeat the same thing ad nauseam:
Pakistan has greater poverty rate than India now. This principle applies to Pakistan more than India.

@Zeta: Poor people are starving every where and those in power has no problem and hence they are spending lavishly on such things and when these missiles will be used even then the poor will be killed.
How about feeding 800 million starving indians rather than spending on and testing these painted missiles
We will make our own missile and fire from other side of Bay of Bengal.. India dont intimidate us..
Well done India,good going.
