Rigid requirements: 48 nomination papers accepted in Peshawar

PTI, JI candidates’ applications rejected in Upper Dir, Kohat.

SHABQADAR/ KOHAT/ PESHAWAR/ UPPER DIR: Around 55 application forms of candidates were scrutinised in Peshawar on Friday. While 48 applications were accepted, three candidates were asked to produce additional information.

In Upper Dir and Kohat, returning officers (ROs) rejected application forms of two candidates.

Former MPA and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) district vice chief Malik Behram Khan, who submitted an application to contest for the PK-93 Upper Dir-III seat, had his form rejected because it was incomplete.

In a separate case, Shahbaz Gul, who was awarded a ticket by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to contest the PK-38 Kohat-II seat, had his application rejected by ROs because he had defaulted on debts of around Rs40 million owed to the government.

Nomination papers of six other candidates were also rejected. Ten applications are pending and the remaining forms for Mohmand Agency were all cleared following checks made by ROs.

Mohmand Agency political agent and returning officer Dr Ambar Ali scrutinised nomination papers submitted by 50 candidates for the NA-36 constituency at Ghallanai Jirga Hall.

Among those rejected was General Secretary for JI in Fata Dr Munsif Khan whose application was refused because he was unable to produce a clear electricity bill. Additionally, 10 applications are still pending.
