Newsweek & The Daily Beast’s 2013 Women in the World Summit welcomed a diversity of inspirational women on April 4 and 5 to discuss ways in which community building can further gender equality. It featured renowned personalities from diverse fields such as the former US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, TV host Oprah Winfrey, CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour, Indian journalist Barkha Dutt, actor Tom Hanks along with Obaid-Chinoy. Wearing a lovely Adnan Pardesy outfit, Obaid-Chinoy was part of a special segment named ‘The next generation of Malalas’ moderated by Christiane Amanpour, where the Oscar winning documentary film-maker introduced the house to two young women, Humaira Bachal and Khalida Brohi in Pakistan who were fighting in obscurity and risking their lives for the rights of women and girls—including the right to go to school.

Pakistani women are creating more buzz and trying to lift the image of the great strides made by the women in Pakistan. Is it time to hand over the political stage to women as so far the mostly men in Politics have created in such a mess, It is time for Pakistani men to please step aside hand over the reigns of Pakistan to women and see the country being to heal itself into a peace...prosperous...proud nation!
Good for SOC but spare a thought for the two poor girls dragged all the way to a foreign land only to be paraded around like some showcase trophy. What will happen to them after the glitz and glamour? When they return to the filth and squalor of their environs. SOC will bask in her reflected glory, but these poor members of an oppressed society will be left with nothing but disjointed memories far removed from the reality of their miserable existence. The psychological effect on their innocent minds suffering from cognitive dissonance will be irreversable for ever. It would have been far far better if these so called celebs had visited them in their down trodden localities instead, or done what they all do to assuage their guilt, donate. But then SOC would not have had her day in the sun. Exploitation has many faces, unfortunately. As someone commented "way to go".
Respects to a top class lady!
Way to Go Sharmeen. Proud to have you!
