KARACHI:

As a “mysterious white” police van allegedly being used in criminal activities entered headlines, the Supreme Court directed DIG Shahid Hayat to look into the case and submit a report.

During the hearing of the Karachi violence case on no-go areas, the larger bench questioned why an official vehicle allegedly belonging to the police was allowed to be used in criminal activities, as shown by TV channels.

DIG Hayat insisted the vehicle does not belong to the police force. The investigations are, however, underway and the “truth” will be brought to the court, he said. He also told the judges that he police had arrested four suspects - Shahjehan Baloch, Zubair Baloch, Zakir Dada and a police inspector Yousuf Baloch - in connection with murder of Arshad alias Pappu, the notorious Lyari gangster. Six other nominated suspects, including Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla, were still at large so he pleaded the court grant more time to track him down after interrogating the arrested men.

Allowing his request, the apex court directed DIG Hayat to arrest them at the earliest.
