Child rape: 8-year-old critical, suspect in custody
DNA testing will be done after obtaining physical remand, says investigating officer.
LAHORE:
An eight-year-old girl, resident of Mango Taaro village, raped on Tuesday in the Mangtanwala area, was admitted to Children’s Hospital on Wednesday. An investigation officer said the child was abducted on her way home from school. Her father said that he had gone looking for her and heard her cry out. He caught her assailant in the act and handed him to the police. The investigation officer said that the suspect had fled from the scene and that the police arrested him on Wednesday. He said an FIR had been registered under Section 376 (rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The investigation officer said that the 16-year-old suspect had not confessed. He said a physical remand would be sought from a magistrate today. He said DNA testing would be done after obtaining physical remand. Children’s Hospital Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Fahad said that the child had undergone a complicated but successful operation. He said her condition was still critical.
