ISLAMABAD: Jamat-e-Islami (JI) may have boycotted the 2008 elections but they are all set to make a strong comeback in these elections.

Soon after the election commission announced the date of elections, JI awarded Mian Muhammad Aslam a party ticket to contest the elections from the NA-48 constituency of Islamabad.

He was elected as member of National Assembly from this seat in 2002 but his party boycotted the 2008 elections held under former president Pervez Musharraf.

Aslam, who initiated his political campaign in late February, had remained unopposed until recently, when the Pakistan Peoples Party decided to field President Zardari’s close aide Faisal Sakhi Butt against him.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, however, still remains undecided on their choice. Political workers from the same constituency state that Aslam might be in for a ‘surprise’ when the PML-N awards ticket to a candidate for the constituency.
