Check post assault: Two policemen injured in grenade attack

Thirty suspects were arrested and shifted to the police station.

Two police officials were severely injured when unidentified militants hurled a hand grenade at a check post in Martong, Poran tehsil early Monday morning.


Police official Ashraf Ali said he was informed around 1am that militants had attacked a checkpoint in Kankar. He rushed to the site and found constables Abid Ali and Altaf Hussain unconscious.

The injured were shifted to Poran tehsil headquarters hospital, while a search operation was launched in the area with all roads leading in and out of Martong closed off.

Waqas Khan, a resident of Kankar, said he was sleeping when he heard an explosion, after which a large number of policemen arrived at the spot. He said no one was arrested at night; however, 30 suspects were arrested and shifted to the police station in the morning.

On Friday, five police officials including a DSP were injured when a remote-controlled bomb exploded near their van in Bisham.
