ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has taken notice of the alleged multi-billion corruption carried out by former prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in their respective tenures, Express News reported on Monday.

The notice was taken after the Supreme Court registrar office submitted a note to the chief justice.

The note claimed that 450 illegal CNG licenses were issued during Gilani’s tenure and 200 in Ashraf’s tenure – several of these were issued to their relatives. Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has also been pressurised by the former premiers to issue illegal licenses, the note added.

Alleged corruption was also carried out in around 42,000 CNG cylinders which were imported to the country, the note stated.

A three-member bench will take up the case on April 3.

It is no surprise that the Supreme Court has started on a route of political victimization. Where was the Supreme Court when this corruption occurred, why take notice now when both of those PMs are gone. It is a reality that only PPP and PMLN are the only true democratic forces in Pakistan and their alliance can only solve Pakistan's problems.
