According to the report, 33-year-old Mehmood crammed the birds in wooden crates and packed them in three suitcases on a flight from Pakistan.
When stopped by customs officers, Mehmood said he had “clothes and stuff” in his bags but a search revealed the birds.
Thirteen birds had died while the remaining four were sent to a vet, a court heard.
Mehmood said that he had brought the birds because “he liked them”.

The birds were all put down by lethal injection and the man, it seems got away lightly by getting fined and doing a community sentence. How he got on the plane with the birds is a mystery. The beautiful birds, it is alleged would have spread infections to the British birds rather than being placed under quarantine. I gather that the partridges are not kept as pets in Pakistan, nor do they receive protection under the wildlife act, if any, and end up getting shot at all the time.
What a knob
I would call him bird-brained but don't want to add to the poor birds' suffering.
The birds were asylum seekers!
