Loadshedding blues

The numerous calls and complaints lodged with the KESC have resulted in no response.

Letter April 01, 2013

KARACHI: I would like to bring your attention to a grave problem faced by me and my fellow neighbours. While other areas in Karachi are enjoying uninterrupted and improved power supply, we, the residents of Surti Society, Model Colony, are victims of up to 10 hours daily power cuts and that, too, late in the night, from 1am to 3am. The KESC has linked the issue with poor bill payment recovery and recently, it gave us the billing details of the defaulting customers in my area. On receiving it, we ensured that prompt payments were made by the defaulters. Since the dues have started to clear, it is rather surprising and baffling that the power outage duration has worsened rather than improving. The numerous calls and complaints lodged with the KESC have resulted in no response.

I urge the higher authorities in the KESC to urgently review the situation and bring relief to us by restoring regular power supply to our area. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority should also look into the issue.
