Musharraf's return: Court to hear Benazir murder case afresh

Musharraf to be charged again. Around 25 witnesses will record their statements.

RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court has decided to hear Benazir Bhutto murder case afresh as prime suspect former president Pervez Musharraf has returned to Pakistan, Express News reported on Monday.

Around 25 witnesses had recorded their statements for the case, however, their statements will now be recorded again.

Musharraf, along with other suspects, will be charged again in the murder case.

Earlier, the former president had his pre-arrest bail approved by Sindh High Court. He was granted a 10 day bail period, which was later extended.

Benazir was killed after an election rally in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007.

In 2010, a UN report said the murder could have been prevented and accused Musharraf’s government of failing to provide Bhutto with adequate protection.
