KARACHI:

A day of celebration took a tragic turn when terrorists attacked the Nation Secondary School located in Baldia Ittehad Town on its annual result day. Scores of excited young students had come to school to collect their prizes, unaware that danger lurked right around the corner.

A tennis ball fitted with explosives was thrown inside the school to create panic among the students, while attackers exploited the distraction to barge in and shoot the principal.

The principal of the school, 45-year-old Abdul Rasheed Khan, was also the vice-president of Awami National Party’s (ANP) district West. According to hospital officials, Khan was shot at least five times and succumbed to his injuries shortly after he was brought in.  Baldia division SP Shahjahan Khan told The Express Tribune that the deceased was the militants’ target.
