LAHORE:

A petition filed with the Lahore High Court on Saturday seeks action against those who did not follow the Constitution while appointing the caretaker prime minister and the caretaker chief minister for Punjab.

Irfan Mukhtar said in his petition that the president was not consulted on the prime minister’s appointment, while the Punjab governor was not consulted on the caretaker chief minister’s appointment. Under Article 224 (1A), the caretaker PM should have been appointed in consultation with the president and the National Assembly opposition leader, and the caretaker CM in consultation with the Punjab Assembly opposition leader and the governor.
