An eyewitness identified Shahrukh Jatoi and three other suspects as the murderers of Shahzeb Khan before the Anti-Terrorism Court III on Saturday.
Shahrukh, Nawab Siraj Talpur, his younger brother Nawab Sajjad Talpur and their employee Ghulam Murtaza Lashari have been charged with killing 20-year-old Shahzeb, son of a police officer, over a petty dispute in the Defense Housing Society on December 25, 2012.
Judge Ghulam Mustafa Memon of the ATC-III, who is conducting the trial daily on directions of the Supreme Court, had summoned the eyewitness to record his statement. Some of the prosecution’s witnesses had already identified the four suspects, but two had refused to name them. The witness on Saturday, however, confidently told the judge that on the night of the incident, he saw Shahrukh open fire on Shahzeb. But the co-accused - Siraj Talpur and Murtaza Lashari - instigated him to fire more shots, shouting that the injured boy was still alive. The eyewitness added that Shahrukh fired more bullets to kill Shahzeb.
After recording his statement, Judge Memon adjourned the hearing till Monday, calling other witnesses to testify. The victim’s father, Aurangzeb Khan, had registered a murder case at the Darakhshan police station, naming Shahrukh, Talpur brothers and their employee Lashari as the killers of his son.
