Preparing For The Worst: NDMA works on new disaster policy

Official at the ministry of climate change says the authority was also working to minimise impacts of climate change.

ISLAMABAD:
A 10-year national disaster management plan and national disaster risk reduction policy is being prepared to control situations resulting from climate change.

The plan is being prepared by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) as part of its long term measures to tackle natural disasters, an official at the ministry of climate change said on Thursday.

He said the authority was also working to minimise the impacts of climate change through adaptive and preparedness measures.

As part of its short term measures, the NDMA has taken steps to improve the weather forecasting capability of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) through the induction of flash flood guidance system, automatic weather stations and an integrated flood alert system.
