GUJRANWALA: The Health Department has approved Rs15 million funds for upgrading Civil Hospital, Medical Superintendent Anwar Amaan told The Express Tribune.

He said he had written a letter to health secretary seeking permission to demolish the old building.

He said after a medical college was started in 2012, the hospital was awarded the status of a teaching hospital.

He said at the event, former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif had announced to upgrade the hospital to an 1,100-bed facility.

He said after the PC-1 (project digest) was prepared, it was decided that the old eye ward and pharmacy would be demolished and a 500-bed section would be built in the place with four units— an eye ward, an orthopaedic centre, a urology centre and a children’s ward.

He said the funds had now been approved for the construction of the new section.
