SHABQADAR/ PESHAWAR: Former Qaumi Watan Party MPA Dilawar Mohmand’s house was targeted for the third time early Wednesday morning.

Unidentified men opened fire at his residence around 1:20am, but fortunately, there were no casualties. Shabqadar police official Wilayat Khan said an FIR was registered by Mohmand, who has also held a seat in the Senate.

Khan said the attackers fired a rocket launcher at the house, upon which watchman retaliated. The watchman, requesting anonymity, said the house is nearly 30 yards away from Government High School Halemzai. The assailants escaped when the guard returned fire.

Dilawar Khan was elected MPA in 1985 and senator in 1998. His son Muhammad Ali Mohmand, who was elected as MPA in 2008, was critically injured in a suicide attack in March 2012 in Charsadda.  He died in November that year after undergoing long treatment. Later, his son Babar Ali retained the PK-22 seat of his father during by-polls held on January 15, 2013.

Meanwhile, a low intensity explosion took place near the residence of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) district general secretary Akbar Khan Mohmand on Shami Road, inflicting damage on the house.

Akbar Khan Mohmand belongs to the Baizai clan of Mohmand and has formerly served as the president of Fata Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also said to be PPP’s candidate for PK-1 in the forthcoming elections.

A police official confirmed no casualties were reported in the blast and only a portion of the boundary wall had been damaged. He added that the bomb disposal squad  was inspecting the site.

Mohmand family has given many sacrifices for the state but the state has miserably failed to protect them.
