The story is based on the efforts of Humaira Bachal, an activist based in Muwach Goth, Karachi.
As a child, Humaira fought against her family and community in order to gain an education. Today, she has made education accessible to other children in Muwach Goth at The Dream Foundation School, which charges a nominal fee of one cent (about Rs10) per day.
Humaira has successfully educated over 1,200 children and now works to change people’s attitude towards education in her community.
The press conference was co-hosted by Hollywood actor Salma Hayek Pinault along with Obaid-Chinoy, Mariane Pearl and musician John Legend to announce The Sound of Change, a global concert scheduled to take place on June 1 this year.
At the premiere, Obaid-Chinoy was wearing and outfit designed by Misha Lakhani. She said “The difference between millions of deprived women across the developing world and me is education. If Humaira was here today, she would second that. The very fact that girls are not even given the option to go to school in so many communities across the world is alarming and those of us who have a voice need to speak up and become their voice!”
