The Lahore High Court was moved on Monday to restrain former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from contesting the general elections scheduled to be held on May 11.
Imran Ali, a citizen, moved the petition through Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafferi. He stated that Sharif was involved in laundering Rs2 billion black money and had stolen from the national exchequer during his regime.
He said Sharif did not fit the constitutional eligibility criteria.
He prayed the court to issue directions to the election commission to reject Sharif’s nomination papers.
