HYDERABAD:

The non-cooperative attitude of parents about getting their children under the age of five vaccinated against epidemic diseases is extremely regrettable, said speakers at a workshop organised by Unicef in collaboration with Hyderabad district administration and Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday.

The workshop was named ‘Reporting on child health in Sindh’. They said Pakistan is one of the three countries in the world along with Afghanistan and Nigeria where the polio virus still exists. Hyderabad is a carrier of the polio virus because of the poor health and sanitation conditions.

The speakers emphasised the need to create awareness among parents to get their children vaccinated. Out of 1,000 children of under five years, at least 100 are being reported dead due to their parents’ carelessness.
