National Party leader Dr Abdul Hai Baloch, who had been named among the nominees for caretaker prime minister, ruled himself out from becoming the interim premier, Express News reported Tuesday.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had nominated Dr Baloch after a deadlock had developed with the opposition parties led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Ashraf had previously proposed the names of former finance minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Dr Ishrat Hussain and Justice (retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khosa for the interim premier slot. These names were rejected by the opposition.

As the deadlock persisted, Ashraf proposed two more names including that of Dr Baloch.

PPP leaders have gathered in the PM House to discuss further names for caretaker premier. The decision to pick a candidate should be made by midnight tonight.
