The committee that was formulated by National Assembly speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza was given time till Friday to appoint the immediate successor to the current prime minister, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
The committee comprised of four members each from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the outgoing government of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The PML-N would be represented by:
- Mehtab Abbas
- Khwaja Saad Rafique
- Sardar Yaqoob Nasir
- Pervaiz Rasheed
The outgoing government and the PPP will be represented by:
- Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain
- Farooq H Naek
- Khurshid Shah
- Ghulam Ahmed Bilour
The PPP and the opposition parties had earlier failed to reach a consensus on the appointment of the caretaker prime minister and on the constitution of a bipartisan caretaker setup in Sindh and Punjab.

@Adnan: Agree with you 100%
Don Corleone would be impressed with the line up.
Selecting care taker PM is becoming more difficult job than electing the Pope. It took Cardinals nearly two days to announce that they have a new Pope. Let’s see when the white smoke will will come out from the parliament house where our eight leaders are meeting!!!!
surprised N league wanted Ishaq Dar, munshi and relative of NS. no other party from opposition. who will choose ministers
PML N will make full effort to take the case to Election commission. It will be at this stage that the influence will judiciary will come into play and Nasir Aslam Zahid will be made interim Prime Minister to influence elections in favor of PML N.
@lalai: Agree on point one... however PML (N) has negligible presence in Sind
Slightly agree with point 2 that there is no other member from other opposition parties. Saying that Maulana of JUI has distanced himself from the process after reservations on Justice Shakirullah. MQM... do you really think MQM is opposition.??? Cannot see any other notable opposition presence Assemblies.
Why do suspicious people like Farooq H Naek , who was handling Zardari's corruption charges , have to be part of this committee?
Interestingly, all four nominees of opposition are listed as member of PML-N. Is it care-taker for country or PML-N they are talking about?
Stop hatred. Yaqoob Nasir is from balochistan and Mehatab from Pakhtunkhwa.
Just look at Govt team . You will know which province is missing.
With these fine, upright gentlemen at the helm of affairs, how could we possibly get a caretaker PM who was anything put a model of propriety?
In fact, I say forget the election, let them just select the next government...
@Anserali Khan: Normally in a matured democracy the ruling party will suggest some two or three names and the opposition party will pick one if there is no serious controversy in the person concerned. Here the opposition announces its list even before the ruling party. As Pakistan democracy is yet to mature such things happen. Is it not?
Glad to see that the Spoiler-n-Chief Ch Nisar is out of the picture.
My worry is that in this nation of 180 Million both major parties cannot find one person whom both of them can trust to be Care taker Prime Minister.
There are two main objections. 1. No name from SIndh. 2. No opposition member other PML(N) nominated. Is this a sign of future politics to come? The conventional autocratic ruling style of Sharif brothers. My worst fears say YES, but I still hope it shouldn't happen becasue Pakistans problems are too big for just one party to handle.
