PPP, MQM agree on Justice (retd) Zahid’s name for Sindh caretaker CM

Qaim Ali Shah also sends summary to Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad for the dissolution of the assembly.

The decision will be formally announced during a press conference later during the day.

KARACHI:
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) agreed in principle on appointing Justice (retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi as the caretaker chief minister of Sindh, sources told Express News on Tuesday.

Both the parties agreed that Justice (retd) Zahid, a former Sindh High Court judge, was neutral and senior-most amongst all the candidates.

The decision is expected to be formally announced during a press conference scheduled for later in the day, the sources added. During the press conference, the Sindh governor is also expected to announce the dissolution of Sindh Assembly.

Leaders from the PPP, led by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, and the MQM, led by Sardar Ahmed Shah, met at the Governor House on Monday but could not evolve consensus on the caretaker chief minister.

The provincial chief minister also sent a summary to Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad for the dissolution of the assembly.
