KOHAT:

Eleven members of a family were severely injured when a fire erupted inside their house in Kohat as a result of a gas leakage on Monday.

The owner of the house in Dodha Sharif, Niaz Gul, reported his grandson, Rizwan, woke up at midnight crying for food. The child’s mother woke to feed him but when she lit a match, an explosion occurred, followed by a fire in the one-room house.

Gul added people from the neighbourhood heard the commotion and rushed to help extinguish the fire. The family was taken to the Kohat Divisional Hospital. The injured were identified as Niaz Gul, his wife, two daughters, two sons, one daughter-in-law, two grandsons and two granddaughters.

They were later referred to the Burn Unit, Lady Reading Hospital. The family has appealed to the government for financial assistance.

The irate grandfather held the gas department responsible for the horrific incident. Gul had registered two complaints, however, no one visited for repairs.
