Romania opens consulate to deepen trade ties

Consultants are arriving to promote power production from coal, water.

FAISALABAD:

Romania has expressed optimism that the opening of its consulate in Faisalabad will pave the way for boosting trade between Pakistan and Romania.

Speaking at the inauguration of the consulate office near Khurarianwala here late Friday night, where prominent industrialists and traders were present, Romanian Ambassador Emilian Ion said he would work for deepening friendly relations between the two sides, besides helping Pakistan in resolving its energy crisis.

“It is probably the first foreign consulate in Faisalabad that will help the business community win due share in global markets,” he stressed. The consulate is also expected to encourage cultural and educational ties between the two countries.

Discussing the solutions to energy shortages, the ambassador mentioned Pakistan’s huge coal reserves that could be utilised to produce cheap electricity.

Two consultants from Romania would come to Pakistan very soon to explore the possibilities and promote production of electricity from coal and water, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, entrepreneur Faiq Javed, who was appointed honorary consul at the Faisalabad consulate, said being part of the Romanian embassy he would utilise his best potential to give a boost to the trade ties.

“It is a privilege for me to become the first honorary consul of Romania outside major cities of Lahore and Karachi,” he said, adding it would prove the first drop and other embassies would also open their consulates to enjoy direct trade relations with business tycoons of this region.

Separately speaking at a dinner, the ambassador invited businessmen of Faisalabad to visit Romania and explore business opportunities in the seventh largest country of the European Union. “These visits will help in enhancing business volumes between the two countries,” he said.
