LAHORE:

About 100 pictures showing agricultural practices, crop fields, and cultivation were displayed at the Alhamra Arts Gallery on Friday afternoon.

The pictures by 30 photo-journalists and members of the Lahore Photo-Journalists’ Association will be on display till March 17.

The pictures were selected based on their significance in highlighting Pakistani crops and vegetables. The scenes depicted in the pictures range from sugarcane and wheat being processed to vendors selling vegetables and flowers and grain fields during different seasons. Omer Sharif, a photo-journalist for daily Pakistan, is displaying his photographs of mustard fields from various angles.

“The mustard blossoms represent coming of spring. I photograph them every year,” Sharif said. Abid Nawaz and Shafiq Malik of The Express Tribune coordinated the event with Mohsin Raza of Reuters.

Raza is displaying four pictures of his. He has photographed fields of blooming red roses, farmers reaping cotton field against an orange-hued sunset as well as rose farming.

About 60 per cent pictures on display have been taken at agricultural lands in fields around Lahore. The rest were taken from across the Punjab.

This has been the second event arranged by the Lahore Photo-Journalists’ Association this year.  Three months ago, the association invited photo-journalists to provide pictures showing cultural activities. The event was arranged with help of Pakistan Tourism Development Authority.

The association has been around for over 40 years and holds three to four exhibitions on several themes every year.

None of the pictures on display are for sale.
