GILGIT:

An American national of Pakistani origin, arrested for ‘suspicious behaviour’, was released after interrogation, officials said on Friday.

Shaheen, a resident of Los Angeles, had come to Gilgit from Skardu a day before her arrest and was staying in a hotel. During a visit to the market, police officers took her to the police station for interrogation.

“She was wandering in the market and was not cooperating with the authorities when they asked her to show them her documents so she was brought to the police station,” said an official requesting anonymity. Police said her ‘stubborn behaviour’ led to the police station interrogation.

Superintendant Police Ali Zia later said it was a brief interrogation after which the woman was released.
