There is nothing more mouthwatering than a perfectly crispy and moist chicken broast. If you’re a broast buff like me and enjoy variations like double fried, masala or garlic mayo — champ it up with these flavour explosions at places you whirl by on a daily basis, but never really think about trying.
This may not be the broast you are accustomed to, but it may easily be an out-of-ordinary broast you’ve never had in Karachi. Our city boasts some of the best chicken broast around served up with classic fries and doughy buns. Here are a few of my palatable favorites, all priced between Rs145 to Rs170 for a quarter.
Bilal Broast
When you think of chicken broast, Bilal Broast (BB) may not be the first that comes to mind, but their chatpata broast might change that. Located at 12 New Town, Gurumandir, BB’s chicken is moist, tender and juicy with generous lemony masala stuffed neatly into a cavity that lends your taste buds a fiery combination of cumin, coriander and red chili. Served with fries, a bun and two kinds of sauces (the white one tastes like peppery-garlicky mayonnaise). When you do get back to your car, with the chatpata chicken in hand, the aroma wafting from the container will totally lure you to gobble it all before driving home! Do try some of the other delicious varieties on offer like the green chicken broast and fish broast. They also make fried quail, pigeon and rabbit on order!
Jan’s Broast
Jan’s started operations in 1982 from Saddar and later opened an outlet at Clifton in 2004. To be honest, the fried chicken at Jan’s is nothing to write home about and only good enough to make the list because it has been around for ages. The chicken used to be crispy and perfectly seasoned with splendid accompaniments that it alone was worth the wait in line. However, the one we consumed recently was lukewarm and bland, served with rock-hard fries.
Kundan Broast
Kundan Broast at Main Karsaz is an unassuming outdoor eatery which has awesome broast, double-fried to joyful crispness. This restaurant serving fast food is quickly making a mark with broast fanatics from all over Karachi as the chicken is anything but ordinary. Spiced with an abundance of black pepper and zesty masala, it is wonderfully tasty and meaty. Perched atop a mound of golden fries with a side of a bun and sauces, it should be on the list of your must-haves.
Karachi Broast
There is something about the finger lickin’ white garlic sauce and the crispy fries at Karachi Broast, that I am biased to give it a 5/5. Despite its small size, Karachi Broast has made a name for itself over the years, mostly for chicken broast and dry chicken chili. The broasted chicken at Karachi Broast comes high in stature because of obvious reasons. The chicken has a good crust, the skin is savory in flavor, and the meat is succulent. You can taste a blend of pepper and seasoning that would make the bird proud. What sets apart this bird from the rest of the flock are the accompaniments that make sure that every mouthful is a burst of flavor and texture. This cheap dinner is certainly worthy of a spot in the top, which apparently is no secret as patrons all around us were going crazy over it.
KFC
Lastly, KFC, when all else fails, two thigh pieces of tender chicken encased in a satisfyingly crisp skin, with just the right amount of spice would do it for you. Their secret recipe comprises of 11 herbs and spices and has come a long way with our chicken loving nation. I only wish they would bring back their coleslaw which was a great supplement with their chicken.

There used to be Burger Time, near liberty chowk, tariq road one of the best broast blended with herb and pepper. Apart in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, there's a place Miss Hen, a nice tender and juicy broast.
In Fedral B Area starting from Incholi till Karimabad . Khan Broast has the best Broast. But they dont give enough fries but raita is delicious.

Jan broast is not even avg.
Karachi Broast! You didn't have to do this Shafia!!! Every trip I try to have it as many times as possible. Their white garlic/potato/mayo dip is what makes them stand apart. Yum! Why don't they open up an outlet here, I'd go there very very often :)
@In the know...: Karachi Broast has opened at Port grand, you can go there wih your family
Yes, Khan broast is also one of the best places near water pump. They shud have been on the list too
The List Should Also Include Other Good Broast Shops besides these Iconic Ones KBC near Atrium Mall does an Excellent Broast Hot n Spicy in Khadda Market also does Very Good Broast Mr Burger is one of the Oldest Broast Servers in town, though their famous for their Burgers their broast is well worth the Try Also this place near Hasan Square in Karachi, Food Club, its in Service lane opp Student Biryani, Very Good Broast Ofcourse Kaybees deserves to be on the list also.
Just an FYI note: Table Talk is a restaurant in Islamabad. Kinda confusing when ET uses it as a tagline to review other restaurants. I thought to myself, Table Talk serves broast?
Karachi Broast is by far the best... imho! However, boat basin eateries are getting a reputation for an obnoxious crowd of not-so-decent people... hence, haven't gone to Karachi Broast for a while, despite living not that far away... Plus take-away or delivered broast completely loses its charm by the the time it reaches the dining table.
In North Nazimabad we have Kausar Broast and Cool 90's one of the best broast in town, Kausar Broast is the orginal type of broast not the replica of KFC.
Khan Broast on main water pump yuumy
@Ahmed Khan: Yeah I agree with you. Khan Broast is definitely worth giving a try. I went their three four years ago, but still remember the taste... I wonder how author missed it...
You missed Khan broast, Cool 90s broast near 5 star & chick & chips boat basin Try them if you havent....... I agree with your comments about Jans broast
@Sobia: I agree 100%. You can't have enough of their white sauce.
Broast was first introduced by "Henny Penny Broasted Chicken" near Shaheed-e-Millat/Tariq Rd. I endorse the tastefulness of Kundan and Karachi Broasts, the plain broast of Kaybees, MACHS is also good, Kaybees also have a crispy broast which is much like the KFC covering....
Khan broast and pioneer broast are my favourite when it comes to broast.. =)
Great writeup made me hungry early morning :)
What about Khan Broast near Water Pump/ Ayesha manzil ? Come on you cant ignore it from your list! it is one of the oldest broast shops in the city.
In the days of yore Jan's Broast used to be the best even though getting a parking spot around the place was a scary proposition. I believe the parking situation probably has deteriorated further.
I am not familiar with the others on the list other than KFC. However I think it the list may be missing a place in Bahadurabad jut opposite to Rajjo Ice cream and next to Tariq Photo Copy place.
Also there used to be a Spinzer place at Mohammed Ali Society in the 70's and 80's that served Broast even before Jan Broast. I am not sure if the landmark places like Spinzer, Rajjoo Ice cream and Tariq Photo Copy place exist.
Bovi Chic used to be less, but nice and would save in deals....dont know about now!
" To be honest, the fried chicken at Jan’s is nothing to write home about and only good enough to make the list because it has been around for ages"
I thought you said this was a list of your favourite places...? I presumed it would taste wise....
