The protest and sit-in by nonteaching staff from Federal Directorate of Education schools and colleges continued on Monday. As a result, Peshawar Mor remained blocked for more than three hours.
The protest froze all traffic flow on Peshwar Mor, Kashmir Highway and Ninth Avenue and resulted in a massive traffic jam on adjacent roads.
Male and female staffers staged the sit-in at the Peshawar Mor intersection and chanted slogans against the Capital Administration and Development (CAD) ministry for making false promises. Later, they moved back to their other protest site outside the FDE building.
Islamabad Model Colleges and Schools Welfare Association President Muhammad Aftab Abbasi told The Express Tribune that nobody from CAD came for a dialogue with them. “On Tuesday (today) we will march in protest from National Press Club to D-Chowk and will stay there till our demands are met,” he said.
Nonteaching staff have been staging sit-ins and protests for the last five days in an effort to get approval for time-scale promotions, regularisation of daily wage employees and payment of rental and education allowances for the staff.
