LAHORE: A contempt of court petition was on Monday filed in the Lahore High Court against the prime minister and the Council of Common Interests for failing to build the Kalabagh Dam despite court orders.

Sindh Taas Water Council President Muhammad Suleman Khan filed the petition stating that the LHC had directed the federal government on November 29, 2012 that in performance of its duty under Article 154 of the Constitution, it should take steps to implement the decision of the Council of Common Interests dated September 16, 1991, for the construction of Kalabagh Dam.

He said more than three months had passes but no action had been taken to implement the court order.

He said that instead of following the court order or filing an appeal, PPP leaders had been issuing statements against the dam project.

He prayed to the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the government.
