HANGU: Security forces claimed to have killed eight militants during a targeted operation in the mountainous region of Khadmak, Central Kurram on Friday.

An official of the Thal Scouts said militants fired three rockets at their camp from an unknown location at 12am. Two rockets missed the camp, landing in a barren space beyond its perimeter, while one landed inside the compound.

Security forces launched a search operation in the area and fired mortar shells at militant hideouts in retaliation to the attack. The official said the shelling continued until 4am, adding that eight militants were killed while two trenches were destroyed.

The official further said militants targeted in the shelling had fled to Central Kurram. No human loss was reported in the attack on the Thal Scouts camp.
