SHC halts illegal excavation of sand and gravel

Syed Shiraz Ali complains that sand and gravel is being dug up illegally and several policemen support the practice.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered a ban on illegal excavation of sand and gravel.


This ban came into effect following a petition filed by Syed Shiraz Ali, who complained that sand and gravel is being dug up illegally and several policemen are supporting the practice.

The petitioner claimed that sand and gravel was being lifted in large quantities by contractors with the help of the police, particularly in areas such as Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, Mehran Town, Korangi Industrial Area, Sharafi Goth and Shah Faisal Colony.

The petitioner appealed the court initiate criminal proceedings against suspected police officials. The high court bench has also directed police officials to file their replies and ensure instant implementation of the ban at the next hearing.
