CEC to decide postponement on Monday
The SEC says decision to postpone by-election for PS-94 will be taken by the Chief Election Commissioner.
KARACHI:
The Sindh Election Commissioner said that the decision to postpone the by-election for PS-94 will be taken by the Chief Election Commissioner on Monday.
PS-94 of Orangi Town fell vacant with Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Raza Haider’s killing in August. The MQM has requested a postponement in light of the murder of its key member Imran Farooq in London. Sindh Election Commissioner Sonu Khan told Daily Express that a request was send by the governor’s principle secretary to Islamabad.
The principle secretary wrote to the provincial election commission, chief secretary and home ministry on Friday.
The by-election was scheduled for September 22.
The Awami National Party has said it will challenge any decision to delay the by-polls.
Arts Council delays programmes
All scheduled programmes at the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, have been delayed due to the unrest in the city, following the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Dr Imran Farooq.
The cancelled programmes include Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s charity show, scheduled to be held on September 25. A new date for the show will be announced later. additional input by pPI
