KARACHI:

A new Inspector General (IG) has been appointed in Sindh in the wake of the Abbas Town blast and subsequent Supreme Court hearing on the matter. Additional IG CID Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh has been assigned the additional charge of IGP Sindh while deputy inspector general (DIG) Admin Imran Yaqoob Minhas has been appointed as DIG for district east police.

On March 6, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah surrendered IGP Fayyaz Leghari and DIG Aleem Jafri to the federal government in an apparent attempt to spare them from the wrath of judges after the SC began the hearing.

However, no notification on the appointment has been issued.

Malir district SSP Rao Anwar, Sacchal DSP Qamar Ahmed and Sacchal SHO Azhar Ali Iqbal have also been suspended.
