Religious Affairs Minister Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi said on Friday some unidentified people had attacked his car. He also accused the police of not taking his complaint seriously.
Qureshi’s parked car was attacked when he was visiting the old city area to condole the death of a PML-N worker’s father. The windscreen was broken apparently when it was pelted with stones.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Delhi Gate Deputy Superintendent of Police Mehar Rab Nawaz said that some residents of the area had rushed out of their houses on hearing the sound of breaking glass.
He said the rumour of a murder attack on Qureshi soon spread. He said some television reporters also reached the spot and reported the incident as an assault on the minister.
He said a police team had inspected the scene, but found no bullet shells. He said there were some stones lying around the car and speculated that some children had thrown these. He said investigation was underway.
Later, talking to reporters, Qureshi complained that the police were not taking the attack seriously.
“I will investigate the matter myself and talk to the city police officer,” he told The Express Tribune.
