Swat University’s Journalism and Mass Communication Department has managed to secure 2nd prize in the All Pakistan Inter-University Radio Production competition.
The event, which was organised by Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, was held at a local hotel in Lahore on Friday. Shaista Hakeem, a student of the department, was also nominated for a separate award in the news report category.
Hakeem’s story revolves around the life of a widow who refuses to bow down to social norms and enter a second matrimonial contract after her husband died.
The story tells how the widow brought up her four kids, refusing to compromise on their education, despite facing hardships for fifteen years.
Hakeem told The Express Tribune she wanted to become a journalist since childhood, but one could not even think about such a career in 2008 and 2009. Now that there is peace in the region, Hakeem is hopeful her dream will come true.
