People with physical disabilities on Friday decided to nominate their own candidates to contest the upcoming general elections from Tank district. The decision was taken in a meeting called by Sada Bahar, a welfare organisation working in the district.

The organisation’s president, Siraj Barki said around 2,500 people with physical impairments were registered with the organisation, but were not provided any financial assistance by authorities.

“There is no other way to help those with physical impairments in the district, which is why we decided to nominate our own candidates for the upcoming general polls,” added Barki. According to him, MPA Ghulam Qadir Bhittani announced Rs1.5 million for persons with disabilities a year ago, but the amount is yet to be released.
